Earlston Civic Week Bike Ride Out Has Been Cancelled

3 Minute Gaps

Click on image for link to official trailer

3 Minute Gaps spans the 2009 and 2010 race seasons, from Greg Minnaar’s winning run in Pietermaritzburg, to Gee Atherton’s winning final run at the close of the 2010 season. 14 World Cups and two World Championships. The film is able to follow an ongoing story like Gee bitterly losing at Ft. Bill in 2009, then making amends with a win in 2010. This film is more than just race clips, you really get a feel of what these riders are going through over the years.

Previews 2nd June at the Nevis Center in Fort William

L-R: Rebbecca, Christopher, Angus & Blair

Well done to our girls and boys who did so well competing at the weekend! Special mention must go to Rebecca Kennedy who was not only the Fastest Junior female but was the FASTEST FEMALE of the day beating the seniors by over 10 seconds! Way to go Girl! Results below.

There is a brilliant write up on Descent World  and I quote

"One junior female riding this weekend and that was Rebecca Kennedy her best time of the day was 1.43 which was the
fastest female time of the day.In the senior women category Melissa Pearson took the win in 1.56
over Uplift Scotland rider Bex Reilly just 2 seconds back."

There are some cracking photos on Roots & Rain of the team in action as well.

Scottish Mountain Bike Orienteering Series 2011

The calendar for the 2011 SMBO events has just been published http://www.smbo.co.uk/index.php/events/new-event/

There will be some changes to event format and sponsors to be announced very soon. With 6 events in the series, this year should be more fun and give everyone a good chance to get involved.  There will also be discounts available for entering multiple events.

These are great fun events, cheap to enter and something a bit different from the monotonous lap after lap events!

Pentlands – 10th April
Glentress – 1st May
Innerliethen – 5th June
Yarrow Valley – 3rd July
Wark – 4th September
Craik – 2nd October

Don’t worry about the technical stuff as we’ll give you plenty of help so you can get lost….

Proper Mountain Bike Series

Inspired by the need to run challenging events that aren’t a lap of a muddy field or trail centre the Proper Mountain Bike series has been launched.

3 events run at the start of 2011 to test your bike handling skills and fitness through the depths of Winter, the essence of being a Scottish mountain biker.

Enduro January 30th
Exciting trails using the full height of the hill making the most of your efforts getting up there. Every type of trail condition possible; rock, roots, mud and hardpack make the realm of technical riders, add short pedalling sections and the all rounders should rise to the top if they have the skills.

Mini DH February 13th
Winter downhill racing as it used to be; a fun, chilled atmosphere, trying to get one over on your mates in the conditions that only a Scottish winter can deliver. This is a push-up event, do as many runs as you can or need to, the quickest one counts.

Mountain Time Trial March 13th
Building on from the last few years success, the mountain time trial is back with tough climbs and rewarding descents. This time around, the course has been added to and tweaked with more ‘off-piste’ to increase the challenge and take you to new places on the hill.

Forestry Commission Car Park, Traquair Road, Innerleithen. Google Maps ref: 55.611283,-3.056143. Sat Nav search “Innerleithen”. The race will be signposted from the major approach roads. Registration is in the event arena.

Full catering services will be provided on site. Please note there is no drinking water on site.

Series Rules
The series consists of three events. Points will be awarded for each event from 20 for first place to 1 point for 20th. Prizes will be given to podium places at all events and a Best Man and Best Woman prize awarded to the best placed rider across all three events.

British Cycling rules apply to all races and will be administered by the Chief Commissaire.
